Early September 2013 saw Ian Smith, Martin Sinton and Ian Matterson win a telescope at the Baker Street Irregular Astronomers` Star party in the Brecon Beacons. Aided by Carl from Solihull, the team of 4 took on other astro teams from around the Country including the presenters from the BBC `Sky at Night` (namely Chris Lintott, Pete Lawrence and Lucy Green) and came a very credible 3rd place, winning a 127mm Maksutov Cassegrain Goto Telescope of substantial value. (Well done Martin for answering 90% of the questions for us). It was great and slightly awe inspiring to meet them in person.
Ian Matterson explains `The competition was fierce with plenty of good natured banter across the Teams. Our answers were checked by the Sky at Night team and there was a disagreement over one answer but the organisers agreed that our answer was, in fact correct, giving us that final extra point to secure 3rd place'.
The scope will be available at all CADAC meetings for use by members and public alike. It is our first Club asset and a valued addition for our Club observing events.
